This session gives children the opportunity to explore history through primary evidence. They will discover how the Romans would have lived, and explore the attitudes of the British tribes to the arrival of the Romans. This interactive session pays close attention to the local case study of Calleva Atrebatum, a Roman town around 10 miles from Reading, near modern Silchester. Children will work with and handle real Roman artefacts, dress up in replica costume and take part in role play activities. The sessions takes place in the Museum's Silchester Gallery, which houses the artefacts found in local excavations.
