Join us for a tour inside the recently restored medieval Abbey Gateway and learn about this listed building’s fascinating history and its role in the Abbey Quarter. Hear about the Abbey monks, visiting royalty, links to novelist Jane Austen and the vital conservation work done to bring it back to life. In groups of ten you can then access the Gateway rooftop - a fantastic chance to see an aerial view of the Forbury Gardens and Abbey Ruins.
Celebrating Jane Austen 250 anniversary, this year the Abbey Gateway also hosts a pop-up exhibition of information panels created by Reading University Students in collaboration with Reading Museum.
Please note that the Gateway has no step free access and there are uneven steps and floors. The visit to the rooftop is not recommended with small children.
