Breakout space every Saturday for neurodiverse visitors and their families
Free sessions, developed with Autism Berkshire
Reading Museum and The Museum of English Rural Life are thrilled to launch ‘Museums, My Way’, a new series of sessions for neurodiverse visitors of all ages.
These sessions, developed with Autism Berkshire, provide a safe environment to explore both museums.
Reading Museum is offering a weekly break out space during our Saturday opening hours, 10am - 5pm, aimed at neurodivergent visitors and their families. An area with tents, cushions and sensory toys will be available. Families can enjoy exploring the galleries using our sensory bags, then take time out to relax before continuing their visit. Siblings, families, carers and friends are all welcome.
These sessions include:
- sensory backpacks with ear defenders
- break out space
- self-led activities
- social story and sensory map
All activities are optional and you can visit at any point during our opening times, every Saturday 10am - 5pm.
Our next event will be on Sat 13 July with a special performance in the Arctic Mirage Exhibition, find out more here
'Museums, My Way' is part of Museums Partnership Reading, a collaborative, wide ranging programme of activities from Reading Museum and The Museum of English Rural Life, supported by the Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisation programme.
